The Gainesville Time Trial Challenge

The Gainesville TT Challenge will rise up from the ashes to bring pain and suffering upon all participants in 2013!

The Committee to Avoid Responsibility has recently looked over our schedules, and completely ignored everyone else's schedules, and came up with a plan for the 2013 installment of Gainesville's longest running consistently held unofficial race series that really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, except of course for those all important bragging rights and the "you're going down!" phone calls that seem to go out on the Fridays before these things happen.

We will once again spare no expense (literally, no expense) and award prizes to the fastest time in each of the three categories at the end of the season. And if you're lucky, you may get a burrito. Or not.

The dates are:

March 9th, April 6th, May 4th, June 8th, August 10th, September 7th, October 5th.

Yes, I know there are more than six dates there, just roll with it. And, as always, the dates will be a little flexible due to unforeseen changes in the Florida Racing Calendar, bad weather, the return of Cthulu, etc.

About the 2013 Gainesville TT Challenge Series

The TT Challenge is a 9.3 mile out and back time trial. It is open to anyone that rides a bicycle. During the series, an Individual Time Trial will be held once a month until the end of the series in October. We will record your times and at the end of each event the results will be published. At the end of the series we will announce the results of the best times, best averages, and course record. The overall winner in each category will be given a handy certificate signifying that they got an official "Atta Boy (or Girl!)", nothing else is promised. Try not to take this too seriously, after all, we have shaved legs and wear spandex, how serious can this possibly be?

There will be three categories for the challenge:

Aero -- This can be a road bike with clip-on aerobars, or a TT bike, aero helmet, and skin suit.

Merckx -- Road bike only, no clip-on's, no aero helmets, no skinsuits, no wheels deeper than 30mm (I WILL have a ruler with me, maybe)

Anything Goes -- This is for anything that is pedal driven. Trikes, recumbents, what-have you. If you can pedal it, you can enter it. Several groups of people have asked about a Team Time Trial division, so this is it -- four riders maximum, time ends on the third rider to cross the finish line.

There will also be an optional fourth category, "I want to ride a time trial, but I don't want anyone to know my official time". We will not record your time if you're in this category.

The course can be viewed here.

Course Records

Merckx -- Shawn Gravois, 20:40 (2012)
Aero -- Shawn Gravois, 19:33 (2011)
Anything Goes -- Jim Wright and Ty Mader, 19:37 (2011)

* - and of course, bragging rights..

** - Please note, you can meet us in Brooker if you like, but it is your responsibility to be at the starting line when we're assigning start order. If you show up to the start line AFTER people have started, you will not be allowed to compete -- the volunteers helping to run the TT have made it very clear that they have other plans immediately after the event, so do them a favor and please be on time.

*** - Please note, if you park at the start/finish line, you will be asked to leave and park somewhere else, then come back.
