Memorial Day Picnic at Hart Springs

Ride the back roads of Gilchrist County to work up an appetite and a need to jump in a cool spring. Time your arrival for gate-opening at 9 am if you will be doing a ride from Hart Springs. Food is planned for noon. Chandler and crew are whipping up a build your own Mexican main course; bring salads and deserts, and a lawn chair. PLEASE RSVP if you are going to eat the main course.

Entry into Hart Springs is $5 per head ($3 seniors), max $15 per car (up to 6). If you are arriving by bike, please stop and pay (those doing rides from the park don’t have to pay to get back in, but show your arm band).

Hart Springs is 37 miles from I-75, about 45 minutes. Take SR 26 west from Gainesville (Newberry Road). When SR 26 takes a big left, continue straight onto SW 85th Lane, and then turn right onto CR232. Go 4 miles and turn left onto CR344. The park is on the right before you get to the end of the road.

RSVP in the Members Area.

Saddle Tramps Win Pizza

The results from the Ride To Remember Pizza Challenge are in, and the Saddle Tramps Road Riding Group has won the pies! They'll be meeting Saturday to partake; group members can RSVP in the Members Area.

The Cruisers and Gliders tied for second place, followed by Velo et Cafe, A Riders, and Middle Bees. Six other groups scored a small number of points.

Get ready for more challenges at our Fall invitational events!

Festival Planning Meeting Sunday

We'll be meeting Sunday (May 19) at 4 pm at Cypress & Grove to continue getting organized for the Gainesville Cycling Festival, scheduled this year for October 26-27.

For the first time ever, we have a full slate of second level managers in the Aid area; now all we need is an Aid Director to keep them coordinated.

We also could use a Festival Director; lacking one, we'll run the event by committee.

Please RSVP in the Members Area if you'd like to talk about being a Director, or would like to participate as a back-up in the Aid, Routing, Facilities, or Registration area.

Adopt-A-Road

Saturday, May 25, meet at 9:45 am

It's time for GCC's next quarterly Adopt-A-Road Cleanup of roadside litter along N. Main Street. We will meet in the parking lot of the Main Street Publix Shopping Center (near NW 10th Ave and Zaxby's) at 9:45, and the cleanup will commence as close to 10 am as possible. I will have a sign-in sheet for volunteers.

Go to the Members Area for more info and to RSVP.

You can also call or email me directly if you wish to volunteer. Feel free to call with questions, too.
