President's Message

Stephen Perz

Greetings one and all, fellow cyclists! We have much to be thankful for, and to remember. We have emerged from a pandemic and we can again hold favorite club events of long standing. Big shout-out of thanks to our new Social Director, Jill Cunningham, for stepping forward to make these events happen! This year saw the triumphant return of the Chilly Chili picnic at O’Leno State Park, with numerous delicious chili recipes in a remarkably close competition for a winner. I think Chandler and the other originators of Chilly Chili would be pleased. Further, the GCC held our Memorial Day picnic at Hart Springs, and loads of club members turned up. We had to use the grills at the pavilion next door to keep up! Roger got a birthday song, and his birthday cake was completely devoured! Watch out for the club’s upcoming Labor Day picnic at Boulware Springs!

Of course, we can again ride in groups. Despite the heat this summer, ride groups are meeting and hitting the road! Including gravel routes! Speaking of which, both will be featured in this year’s Gainesville Cycling Festival, officially set for October 21 and 22! More info is available at https://festival.gccfla.org/. The call for volunteers is coming soon! Looking forward to seeing you there! Remember, club members who volunteer one day get free stuff and can ride the other day!
