Katy Tail

Krin Cosner

I was surprised by the beauty and serenity of the Katy Trail and so am inspired to tell other cyclists not to pass up the opportunity. It’s a trail that goes across Missouri, made of limestone/gravel/dirt dotted with kiosks that provide history, bathrooms, restaurants, and potable water.

The most memorable sight is the Missouri River on my right and humongous dolomite rock walls on my left. It is well shaded, guessing 90% shade, trees overhanging the trail.

My friends and I drove to St Charles where we boarded a bus to Clinton. The services were provided through BIG BAM Katy trail and were well worth it. They also must have ordered great weather which was integral to camping and cycling. I also loved our nightly stops, Sedalia, Boonville, Jeff City, Hermann and Augusta. We could walk or shuttle into town and eat, explore and get a sense of trail towns.

So if you can order good weather, I suggest you do this ride! There are also many hotels, Airbnbs and trail cycle housing if you prefer. I’m happy to answer questions. krincosner@gmail.com
