Many Thanks, Three Cheers

by Stephen Perz

Greetings one and all,

I write as GCC President on behalf of the GCC Board with regard to the triumphant return of the Gainesville Cycling Festival this past weekend!

Despite the formidable challenges of the weather on Saturday, we hosted the Santa Fe Century!

The GCC also flexibly managed the changes in plans for many riders, who sallied forth in great numbers in beautiful weather for the Horse Farm Hundred on Sunday.

We had something like 150 GCC members step forward to help out!

MANY THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO VOLUNTEERED TO MAKE THIS AWESOME CLUB EVENT HAPPEN!

In particular, THREE CHEERS for all of the Festival Directors, who worked some long hours to sort out the logistics beforehand.

I especially want to recognize all the GCC members who worked on those Saturday crews in the cold, wind and rain. That was epic!

I saw riders returning on Saturday -- some had done centuries -- and I heard lots of POSITIVE comments about the things we could control: marking the course, being there at the rest stops, providing quality support.

I worked the Flemington stop on Sunday, and we heard the same things repeatedly: riders really appreciated this event for being well-organized, with a well-marked course, great rest stops and great people.

From what I've heard from others, it was the same story at other rest stops and at First Magnitude.

I also had people asking me about other events around here that they can ride.

On that note, I call your attention to the upcoming Veteran's Day Poker Run, set for THIS SUNDAY, 14 November! More info on the GCC website!

Let's do this again!

Stephen Perz, President, GCC
