Group Ride Status

Due to the pandemic and the CDC’s recommendations to limit contacts and group sizes, the Gainesville Cycling Club is not scheduling open group rides at this time.

GCC members are organizing small group rides using text messenging and email.  By limiting the number of contacts these groups stay withing CDC guidelines. The Gainesville Cycling Club recognizes these rides as official GCC sponsored rides if all participants are GCC members and have agreed to the current release. As official rides, they are covered by our insurance.

Please limit the number of participants in a group to at most six.  If more riders are present, break into smaller groups. If more than one group will do the same route, send the faster group out first followed by the other group a few minutes later.

We expect participants in these rides to maintain social distancing while not riding and to wear a mask whenever entering a store or other indoor facility or when stopped in an area where there are a significant number of other persons.

Wash your hands often. It’s difficult to do this while outside riding, so hand sanitizer or wipes that contain at least 60% alcohol also work for keeping your hands clean.  Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands. Clean your hands before eating, touching your face, etc.

Monitor your health and watch for symptoms.  If you have had fever, chills, cough, upper respiratory infection symptoms, body aches, loss of smell or taste in the last 14 days, do not ride with the group.  If you have had contact with any known or suspected COVID-19 patients in the past 14 days, do not ride with the group.

If you have to sneeze, cough, blow your nose, etc., drop back and ensure that no one is in your slip stream.

Ensure there is no physical contact (passing of water bottles, food, handshakes, hugs, etc.) between riders while on the bike, in the parking lot, or at a rest stop.
