ARTWALK RIDE FRIDAY JUNE 28

by Chandler Otis

Let's have an Artwalk ride on Friday, June 28 meeting at 7:00 p.m. at the Thomas Center, 302 NE 6th Ave..   We will enjoy art and refreshments at the Thomas Center and then ride Downtown at 7:45.  The Thomas Center has plenty of parking.

Why a bike ride for Artwalk?   About half of the Artwalk venues are downtown, along with free music at the Bo Diddly Plaza, but it difficult to park anywhere near downtown, often a long walk.  Also, many of the Artwalk venues are a long walk from downtown.  The Gainesville Fine Arts Association (GFAA) is one mile south of Downtown, but worth the trip, they have excellent art and the best hors'd'oeuvres and beverages.

CAVEAT:  We will be riding on urban streets at night.   Everyone must have headlights, taillights and must wear bike helmet.  A reflective vest would be a good idea.   Please, no children under age 16.  We will ride slowly, single file, with one bike length between bikes.   This is for safety.

A bike that you can ride slowly and get on and off easily would be best.  A hybrid, a mountain bike or your "grocery getter"  bike would be perfect  (I'll be on a beach cruiser).  It would be a good idea to bring a bike lock.  I will have locks for rent at the price of one adult beverage per lock.

Schedule:

7:00-7:45 p.m.  Meet at Thomas Center, enjoy their hospitality.

7:45   Ride to downtown plaza, Music starts at 8:00 at the plaza and many Arttwalk galleries are nearby.   I will try to have my van (with water and soft drinks) parked by the southeast corner of the County Administration building (just west of the plaza).

8:00  If people want to visit other venues, I will be happy to lead rides.
