5th Annual Cranksgiving ride this Saturday!

by Ana Fajardo

This year's Cranksgiving ride will be held on Saturday, November 18. It will begin at the backyard of The Freewheel Project, located at 618 S. Main St. Registration begins at 1pm and the mass start is at 1:40pm.

Cranksgiving is an annual ride that occurs across the nation to help stock local food banks and homeless shelters with Thanksgiving dinner. This year will be Gainesville's fifth year organizing it, and it will benefit GRACE Marketplace by providing its residents with cold weather items and work clothing.

Participants will ride from checkpoint to checkpoint around town completing Thanksgiving or fall-themed activities. It is a family-friendly event and the route will be approximately 15 miles. Helmets, locks, and a bag or panniers highly recommended. We will have prizes for those who finish the route the fastest, the most generous donor, and for the first finisher under 18. You can win prizes like bike wash, a new lock, or a Bikes & More gift certificate!!

It is free to ride in the event but to officially register please bring a donation of one (1) large cold weather item (blanket, bedding jackets, work boots, etc.) or two (2) smaller items (sock pairs, hats, gloves, long sleeve shirts, pants, packaged underwear...) for donation to GRACE Marketplace.
