Adopt-A-Road is back!

by Ally Gill

Adopt-A-Road litter cleanup is back, and Gainesville Cycling Club has a new road!  Long-term GCC members may recall that our Club used to regularly clean trash from a section of Millhopper Road (and Angle Road before that), until the County eliminated the Adopt-A-Road program several years ago.

Well, Keep Alachua County Beautiful has revived Adopt-A-Road, and GCC has once again stepped up to help out!  We have agreed to perform quarterly litter cleanups along North Main Street from NW 8th Avenue to NW 39th Avenue.    Gainesville Cycling Club Adopt-A-Road signs have been installed, and GCC is ready to go.  Our first litter cleanup event will take place on Saturday, July 1st, from 9:30 a.m until 12 noon.  Cleanups will work like this:  volunteers arrive at the designated meeting spot, supplies get distributed, we pick up trash for 2-3 hours, then convene at a nearby eatery for a snack or lunch.  Due to being on Main Street, we will have many great options for where to grab a bite after the cleanup.
