Tri News

Hey y'all,

There was great article in the latest NSCA Research Journal about a study that followed triathlon results for past 26 yrs. They were trying to determine which aspect would have the biggest effect on participant finish. It turns out that for the Olympic level competitions, that improving your run skills made the biggest difference. In the Ironman level competitions, it was a combination of both cycling and running.

On a personal note, I would agree with this article. When I used to compete in Triathlons, my swimming was fair and cycling good thanks to all the GCC rides, but it was on the run portion that I would catch and pass people.

So for those of you GCC ers that are doing triathlons, you may want to think about a little coaching to improve your run technique. I have personally seen clients go from back of pack status to mid pack with only 1-2 sessions just on technique. No muscle building, no changes in cardio, etc. Just plain old improve the technique.
