Trail Grand Opening

Grand Opening for the West Sixth Street portion of the Gainesville Rail Trail
Thursday, June 25, 2pm – 3pm
325 NW 10th Avenue, Gainesville

The City of Gainesville will hold a Grand Opening for the West Sixth Street portion (between Northwest Fourth Street and NW 16th Avenue) of the Gainesville Rail Trail on Thursday, June 25, at 2 p.m. The event will be held on the Trail adjacent to the Bread of the Mighty Food Bank at 325 NW 10th Avenue.

Landscaping and hardscaping of this portion of the Rail Trail is now complete and will be opened to the public at the event. No further work is expected to take place along this stretch. The landscaping and hardscaping project removed plant overgrowth and increased the aesthetic appearance of the trail. It was paid for by monies through the cooperative Campus Development Agreement between the City of Gainesville and the University of Florida, which is consistent with the City’s Comprehensive Plan which states that the City will “provide a safe, convenient, accessible, comfortable, continuous, and aesthetically pleasing transportation alternative that promotes walking…” and “is conducive to bicycling…”

A brief presentation will be made by elected officials and a post presentation bike tour of the corridor will take place with City staff.

Green Construction Technologies, Inc. constructed the $320,000 project, which was designed by the landscape architectural firm DR3 Design.
