Cycling Storytelling Event: The Conch

Ally Gill

Do you ride a bike for transportation?  Do you have a funny,  true story about cycle-commuting?  Want to share it with the rest of us? Then, bring your friends and come out to The Jones B-Side on Wednesday, August 27th, from 7 to 9 p.m. and listen as your fellow cyclists tell their funniest transportation cycling stories at our very own cycling-specific The Conch: True Storytelling Event!   Gainesville's own long-running true storytelling event, The Conch, is a recurring, anything-goes, open-mike session that takes place on the second Tuesday of every month at Lightnin' Salvage (the back area of Satchel's Pizza), where the public is invited to step up and tell a brief, true, humorous tale.  Wednesday night's event will follow the same general format as the Lightnin' Salvage Conchs, but will be all about cycling, and all about those crazy things only a commuter cyclist encounters in our travels.   Don't have a good story yet, or  have stage fright?  Then come on out, anyway, and be prepared to laugh (or groan) along as other members of the cycling community recant their own five-minute, true cycling stories, without notes.  Grab a bite to eat and an adult beverage while you enjoy the stories.

And, in case you need additional incentive, The Jones B-side will be putting a portion of the proceeds from the event towards bike racks to better serve their bike-riding customers.  Great stories, laughs, food, drink, and hanging out with other cyclists while bringing better bike parking to downtown.   Win-win!

The Jones B-Side, located at 203 SW 2nd Avenue, offers a menu that is heavy on carnivorous fare, but utilizes locally-sourced ingredients, and has some vegetarian and limited vegan options, as well.  They have a full bar and outdoor seating on their patio.
