Gainesville Senior Games Registration Now Open

The Gainesville Sports Commission (GSC) is proud to announce registration for the 14^th Annual Gainesville Senior Games presented by UF Health is now open! Hundreds of athletes ages 50 year and older from Alachua county and across the state of Florida will be competing in 11 exciting sports events from October 3-12, 2014.

This year’s Senior Games will feature archery, basketball shooting, basketball 3 on 3 half court, bowling, cycling, golf, swimming, table tennis track and field, 5K road race and new this year…Billiards! The billiards competition will be held at the Elder Care Senior Recreation Center on Sunday, October 5 and will feature a men’s and women’s 8-ball tournament. The schedule of events for the 14^th Annual Gainesville Senior Games is as follows:

• Golf: Friday October 3 @ 9:00 AM, Ironwood Golf Course (2100 NE 39th Ave)
• Bowling: Friday October 3 @ 9:00 AM, Splitz at Funworks (1301 NW 76th Blvd)
• Cycling: Friday October 3 @ 10:00 AM, Gainesville Auto-Plus Raceway       (11211 N County Road 225)
• Archery: Saturday October 4 @ 9:00 AM, Gator Bowmen Archery Range     (10404 SW Williston Rd.)
• Table Tennis: Saturday October 4 @ 9:00 AM, Lincoln Middle School            (1001 SE 10 Ave)
• Basketball Shooting: Saturday October 4 @ 2:00 PM, Lincoln Middle School (1001 SE 10 Ave)
• Basketball 3-on-3: Saturday October 4 @ 3:30 PM, Lincoln Middle School      (1001 SE 10 Ave)
• 5K and Track & Field: Sunday October 5 @ 8:30 AM, Fred Cone Park (Rubber Track) (2841 E University Ave)
• Billiards: Sunday October 5 @ 9:00 AM, Senior Recreation Center         (5701 N.W. 34th Blvd.)
• Swimming: Sunday October 12 @ 9:00 AM, Stephen C. O’Connell Center (Indoor heated pool) (250 Gale Lemerand Dr)

Each athlete will be competing for gold, silver and bronze medals in their age group and a chance to qualify for the State Senior Games in Lee County on December 6-14, 2014. This year is also a qualifier for the National Senior Games in St. Paul/Minneapolis, MN July 3-16, 2015. Age groups for events will be divided into five year intervals.

This local Senior Games is sanctioned by the Florida Sports Foundation and is a qualifier for the Florida State Senior Games Championships.
