Archer Braid Opening Volunteers Needed

from Ally Gill

On Saturday, June 15th, the Archer Braid Trail officially opens.

GCC is committed to helping the City of Archer, the Archer Chamber of Commerce, and our fellow County residents celebrate this special occasion!

There will be speakers (politicians)!  There will be a ribbon-cutting!  There will be a parade!  There will be a raffle!  There will be a Bike Rodeo!  There will be one less cyclist there helping us out if you don't volunteer!

Volunteers are needed!

Stay tuned for all of the details. The Grand Opening is still evolving... but, I promise:  it's going to be GREAT!

If you would like to come out and help celebrate this wonderful trail, that our Club and community have worked so hard to get built, please join us!

Archer and the Chamber are thrilled to have the Trail, and they are counting on our volunteers to help them make the event a huge success.  There is talk of pushing to have the Trail extend into Levy County.  FDOT representatives will be attending.  We need to mobilize and make sure they know that we wanted this Trail, we are glad it's here, and we want more cycling infrastructure, too.

Let me know if you are interested in helping out with:

-  Setting up our 1 to 2 tents/tables
-  Helping staff the Bike Rodeo  (yee-HAW!!)  (6 or 7 volunteers are needed for this, alone)
-  Staffing our GCC tent(s), i.e., mixing up Gatorade and talking with nice people about how awesome cycling is
-  Calling or visiting local businesses to distribute flyers and get FREE STUFF that can be raffled at the event
-  Cleaning up, and taking down our tents/tables at the end of the Grand Opening
-  Picking up/returning GCC items to our storage unit
-  Packet-stuffing

The Grand Opening will be from 10:00 to 12:00.

The raffle will include a limited number of bicycles and helmets.  Archer has many low-income residents, and used kids' bikes in good working condition would be welcomed as raffle items.  Please check your garage, and consider donating used bikes for the event.
