Riding Groups

Ride Start

The Gainesville Cycling Club has riding groups with designated Group Captains. Each group will have its own riding protocol, which will include where and when it will meet, how far and how fast the group will go, how often it will stop, how it will notify its members of rides, and how the group will interact while on rides. The Group Captain will act as the spokesperson for the group, talking to prospective group members to give them a better idea as to how the group operates.

How do you get into a group? First, join the Gainesville Cycling Club. Then talk to a group member you know and get them to sponsor you on a group ride, or talk to the Group Captain who may find a sponsor for you. Go on at least one ride with the group, and if you fit in with their riding style, keep on riding with them. When you renew your membership, check the box for that group, or to be listed as a group member immediately,

If you're asked to be a sponsor, introduce the new rider to other members of the group at the ride, ensure the new rider knows the group riding protocol and understands the ride route and distance. Some groups may include in their protocol additional duties for a sponsor, such as staying with the new rider throughout the ride.
