Barb Bergin, Lauri Jenkins, Janet and Burt Silverstein, Cliff Gionet, Peggy Pierstorff, Bud Jones, Knut Kverneland, and Neal Jenkins ventured to the west coast for a week of cycling.

Everyone loved our GCC jerseys!

All the mechanics knew Janet on a first name basis. The mechanics were awesome - they never rushed and meticulous. Thanks to Jerry at Primo for talking me into that new 105 triple - I needed it to get up the hills (mountains to us). Although, by the end of the ride I was getting mad if anyone made me use my breaks on a downhill - one rider called me "Peek-a-Boo" in reference to the downhill skier. I was hitting 40-45 mph down those switchbacks - Yeehaw! On the ride back to Diamond Lake from Crater Lake (a long downhill run) an ambulance saw Burt and I wizzing by with our GCC jerseys and decided to follow us flatlanders down the mountain. I guess he was sure we'd hit a cross wind and be road kill; we fortunately disappointed them. On the bus ride back to Portland one tandem team said they hit 51 mph! That is faith.

The scenery was great, the entertainment was great, the organization was phenomenal. I would recommend this trip to anyone.

Things I have learned:

• Take warm clothes
• arrange a "home stay" with laundry facilities mid-week
• don't drink a lot of beer the night the porta potties are a quarter mile from your tent
• don't wait until the last minute to "go" because there is a line at the porta potties at 5 am
• and don't do the 5 mile mountain climb as an option on day one!
