The Horse Farm Hundred is the major event put on by the Gainesville Cycling Club. It is a century ride usually scheduled in late September or early October on a weekend the Gators are not playing a home game (so that our guests can find motel accommodations). A small group of members get together to do the up-front planning and are augmented by many other club members on ride day to make the ride a success.
The ride is known for its outstanding scenery, especially in the areas of northern Marion county that are crammed with horse farms. It is also known for having the best on-the-road feed of any century that we know of.
Starting in 1993, the Horse Farm Hundred became part of the Gainesville Cycling Festival, a two-day event that kicks off with the Santa Fe Century on Saturday. The Santa Fe Century benefits the Boys and Girls Club of Alachua County as a fund raiser. The GCC works closely with the Boys and Girls Club to integrate the two events into the premier weekend of cycling in north Florida.
If you get into a liability situation on a GCC ride, our insurance is primary insurance. You are covered if you are a GCC member and have signed and dated a release. This club will NOT participate in insurance fraud -- ensure that you have signed and dated a release (found on the back of your Renewal Certificate or Membership Application) if you expect to be covered!
The State of Florida will sell you relatively up-to-date maps for very reasonable prices. Most counties cost 30 cents; Collier, Dade, Hillsborough, Lake, Levy, Marion, Osceola, Palm Beach, Polk, and Volusia Counties are 60 cents; Monroe County is 90 cents. The maps are on 18x27 inch sheets (more expensive counties have multiple sheets). The scale of the maps is one half inch to the mile. A six foot tall state of Florida road map is also available for $1.50 (specify road map; there is also a state map without roads). To obtain the maps go to the State of Florida website or send a letter with your order and a check or money order for the total amount plus 6% tax to:
