Participants Needed!

So far, only about 10 percent of Gainesville Cycling Club members have signed up to participate in the Gainesville Cycling Festival. This is THE big cycling event of the year in Gainesville, and we really need a lot more of you to participate for it to be viable this year and in the future. Irma has suppressed some of our out-of-town signups, so you are needed more than ever this year! There are riding options available that will fit the bill for any GCC member.

To sign up to ride the Festival, go to the Members Area. Using this option ensures you will get the Club discount. If you are going to volunteer, WAIT for your volunteer assignment to be posted to the Members Area BEFORE signing up to ride.

Festival Volunteering

We still have plenty of openings for volunteers. You can see the available slots here. There are instructions on that page for signing up.

All volunteers get a complimentary event t-shirt of your choice (there are 16 different versions available! -- but see next article), and most get a free ride in one of the events. You can sign up for more slots to get an additional shirt and ride (details on the page). Do not register for the Festival until your volunteer positions are listed on your Members Area News page.

T-shirt Deadline Tuesday

We will be placing the t-shirt printing order on Wednesday morning (Oct 11), so we need your PAID orders for t-shirts not later than midnight on Tuesday. There will be some extras of the standard sizes in the technical fabric; if you want cotton, ladies cut, no sleeve, long sleeve, or XXL, you must order by the deadline.

Use the expedited sign up button in the Members Area to register and select your shirts.

Holiday Party

Our planning date for the party is for the evening of Dec 2 (Saturday).

Advanced Street Cycling Workshop

by Stephen Perz

Are you ready to take the next steps in riding your bike in the street?

The Gainesville Cycling Club (gccfla.org) announces an “Advanced Street Cycling” workshop to help you broaden your cycling horizons.

The workshop is free and open to all adults who are interested in cycling more.

We will meet at the Freewheel Project, 618 South Main St. in downtown Gainesville, on Wednesday 11 October 2017 from 6-8 PM.

Like “Basic Street Cycling”, the “Advanced” workshop will be a classroom event that will feature dialogue in a safe space about best practices for street cycling in urban areas.

We will go beyond the “Basic” workshop by taking on difficult issues such as taking the lane, motorist hostility, road obstacles, and others.

For more information, contact Stephen Perz, GCC Bike Education Director, at stephen_perz@yahoo.com.
Come one, come all!
