Chandler will do his famous soft taco bar again. *** BRING *** side dishes to complement the main course and for dessert.

Eating will start when the bar is set up, probably shortly after 11 am.

We will provide enough main course for those who RSVP! PLEASE RSVP if you are going to eat the main course.

As the park does not open until 9 am, plan early rides to leave from High Springs, and then drive out to the park after riding. Shorter rides can meet at 9 am at the park. Some groups will plan rides from Gainesville to the park.

Adopt-A-Road is back!

by Ally Gill

Adopt-A-Road litter cleanup is back, and Gainesville Cycling Club has a new road! Long-term GCC members may recall that our Club used to regularly clean trash from a section of Millhopper Road (and Angle Road before that), until the County eliminated the Adopt-A-Road program several years ago.

Well, Keep Alachua County Beautiful has revived Adopt-A-Road, and GCC has once again stepped up to help out! We have agreed to perform quarterly litter cleanups along North Main Street from NW 8th Avenue to NW 39th Avenue. Gainesville Cycling Club Adopt-A-Road signs have been installed, and GCC is ready to go. Our first litter cleanup event will take place on Saturday, July 1st, from 9:30 a.m until 12 noon. Cleanups will work like this: volunteers arrive at the designated meeting spot, supplies get distributed, we pick up trash for 2-3 hours, then convene at a nearby eatery for a snack or lunch. Due to being on Main Street, we will have many great options for where to grab a bite after the cleanup.

Gainesville/Hawthorne Trail Alert

Temporary closures will occur on sections of the Gainesville-Hawthorne State Trail during June, July, and August for repaving, road shoulder stabilization, tree root removal, and other surface improvements. Please use caution on the trail and watch for closed sections. In most instances, trail users will be able to pass the sections under construction by walking on foot around the area.

Commuter's Corner #4: Solidarity!

by Stephen Perz

A predominant discourse about the glories of cycling heralds the freedom offered by the bicycle. This is routinely used to get kids on bikes. This is great, but it’s not the whole picture. As we have wrapped up another National Bicycling Month, I am reminded of the larger social significance of cycling.
