Bastille Day Picnic

Join us at Poe Springs County Park on CR 340 west of High Springs, 28800 NW 182nd Ave.

As the park does not open until 9 am, plan early rides to leave from High Springs, and then drive out to the park after riding. Shorter rides can meet at 9 am at the park. Some groups will plan rides from Gainesville to the park.

Chandler will do burgers and dogs and other things he finds at Sams (including veggie burgers). We'll use more grill capacity than in the past, so he'll need some help to flip burgers. *** BRING *** side dishes to complement the main course and for dessert.

Eating will start when the first burgers are ready, probably shortly after 11 am.

We will provide enough main course for those who RSVP! Please RSVP in the Members Area if you will be eating the main course.

Dues Increase

After 20 years of holding the line on GCC membership dues, the Board has concluded that it is in the best interests of the Club to do a modest increase.

Starting July 1, renewal dues will be $22 for a year for individuals, and $32 for a year for families. Additional years added at the same time are $17 for individuals, and $27 for families. The early renewal bonus will increase to $3. These rates are still lower than what you'll pay to attend most invitational cycling events, which typically charge around $45 for a single ride, so we're confident you will continue to receive a good deal.

8th Avenue Up Again

by Bob Karp, GCAT Secretary

The Gainesville City Commission is poised this Thursday to take a final vote on whether to redesign the remaining segment of NW 8th Avenue from 4 lanes without in-street bike lanes to 3 lanes with in-street bike lanes.

GCAT urges you to let the City Commission know that you support the 3-lane option with in-street bike lanes by emailing the City Commission at citycomm@cityofgainesville.org and, if possible, attend the evening portion of the meeting this Thursday at the City Hall auditorium, 200 E. University Ave., to show your support.

See additional information on the Club web site and in the Members Area (through Thursday, after that in the Archive).

Ride Type Preferences - New Choices

When you joined the Club, you had the opportunity to select either that you rode on the road, off road, or on paved trails. This option could be updated at any time on the Ride page in the Members Area.

We've updated this selection to allow you to select multiple riding venues. Some folks ride on roads one day, and off road the next. Also, you can now select unpaved roads (gravel / limerock).

We intend that the paved trails selection be used if you do not care to ride on roads or off road trails, or spend a substantial amount of your riding on paved trails.

If you are one of our members who rides in multiple categories, or are a gravel road cyclist, please go to the Ride page and update your preferences.

Web Site on New ISP

We've moved the GCC web site to a new ISP, Austin Michael, a Gainesville-based company. This move appears to have fixed the problems we've had sending email to Cox customers. Let us know if you find any problems with the web site (we're working out a few kinks).

Due to the move, you will need to re-establish your single-click sign-on for the Members Area.

2016 GCC Board of Directors

We have openings for Vice President and Secretary. Contact any Board member if interested.
