The Alachua County Commission is considering a management proposal to amend the Comprehensive Plan to remove the requirement to provide paved shoulders or bike lanes when a road is repaved.

We need to have as many folks as possible speak against this. The meeting starts at 5 pm, but it is not expected that this item will be brought up before 6:30 (it is third on the agenda). You can follow the meeting on Cox channel 12 to know when to show up.

Ride the back roads of Gilchrist County to work up an appetite and a need to jump in a cool spring. Time your arrival for gate-opening at 9 am if you will be doing a ride from Hart Springs. Food is planned for noon. Chandler and crew are whipping up a build your own Mexican main course; bring salads and deserts, and a lawn chair. PLEASE RSVP (link in the Members Area) if you are going to eat the main course.

Entry into Hart Springs is $4 per head ($2 seniors), max $12 per car. If you are arriving by bike, please stop and pay (those doing rides from the park don't have to pay to get back in, but show your arm band).

Hart Springs is 37 miles from I-75, about 45 minutes. Take SR 26 west from Gainesville (Newberry Road). When SR 26 takes a big left, continue straight onto SW 85th Lane, and then turn right onto CR232. Go 4 miles and turn left onto CR344. The park is on the right before you get to the end of the road.

Classic Jersey Order

Use the link in the Members Area to go to the Voler Store and order your GCC Classic Jersey and shorts. Also available are hats, gloves, and arm warmers.

This is a reorder from the fall order, so we're able to get the same quantity pricing we earned from that order. That said, we don't have much sponsor money left over, so the amount we're able to cover will not be as great as it was in the fall. The price is still a really good deal (about half off of retail for jerseys).

We anticipate this will be your last opportunity for a while to get a Classic GCC Jersey; we normally go several years between offering it. Plans are being hatched to bring back our second jersey (the Eye4-Grooms), with the order being placed in the fall if everything falls into place.

National Bike Challenge

The National Bike Challenge is underway for its fourth year. This event challenges bicyclists to ride their bikes and record their miles from May through September.

The Gainesville Cycling Club fielded the winning team in each of the first three challenges, and has retired as an undefeated champion. The GCC will not field a team this year.

If you would like to participate in the Challenge for 2016, the local team is the North Central Florida Cracker All Stars. The Challenge web site is https://nationalbikechallenge.org/.
