Three-Peat!

The Gainesville Cycling Club team has won the National Bike Challenge as the team with the most mileage posted for the third year (we're the only team to have ever won the title!). We'll have a celebration ride and party when things wind down from the Pink Pumpkin and Festival.

Three Weeks to the Festival!

We've got three weeks to get a lot of work done to get this year's Festival off to a great start!

We need your help in publicizing this event. On Facebook, search for "Gainesville Cycling Festival". Join the event and Invite all of your cycling friends. Let's see if we can get our number of persons invited up in to the thousands!

We need a lot of volunteers to make the Festival happen. You can see the available slots here. There are instructions on that page for signing up. We still have too many openings; help us by volunteering now.

All volunteers get a complimentary event t-shirt of your choice (there are 16 different versions available!), and most get a free ride in one of the events. You can sign up for more slots to get an additional shirt and ride (details on the page). Do not register for the Festival until your volunteer positions are listed on your Members Area News page.

Pink Pumpkin Pedal-Off

Saturday is the last day to register using a Team code, and the last day before the price increases.

See event details here.

Use the expedited sign up button in the Members Area to register.

Holiday Party Committee

The biggest Gainesville Cycling Club social event of the year is the Holiday Party. We have a tentative reservation at Holy Faith Church for Friday evening, December 11.

To put this event on, we need a committee to plan and execute the food, and come up with activities and/or a program.

Members of this committee will get together (a tentative date is October 11) and elect a chairperson and begin planning. Other venues could be used if available, but you'll have a difficult time beating the cost of the room at Holy Faith.

To get on the committee, RSVP in the Members Area (third column, News page).

Celebration of Cycling

Join us on Friday, November 13, for the 2015 Celebration of Cycling, a day of talks and seminars on cycling topics in Clermont.  Among the presenters are Senator Andy Gardiner, President of the Florida Senate, speaking on "SunTrail Paves the Way for Major Greenways Expansion", and Bill Hattaway, District 1 Secretary of FDOT, speaking on "Florida's Complete Street Standards".

On Saturday evening, November 14, come to the Annual Share the Road Awards Banquet.  The keynote speaker is Diane Travis, a member of the Clermont City Council, a Duathlete, and the Ride of Silence Co-Chair.  Advocates and organizations that have made a significant contribution to cycling in Florida will be honored.

Sign up for these events at the Share The Road web site.  USE COUPON CODE BK2015 to get a $5 discount on the Friday seminars and on the Saturday Banquet!

While you're in town, check out the Cycling and Fitness Expo at Clermont's Waterfront Park during the day on Saturday and Sunday.

Also available are Horrible Hundred preview rides on Saturday, and the 36th Annual Horrible Hundred on Sunday.  Register at http://www.horrible-hundred.com/

2016 Gainesville Cycling Festival

by Roger Pierce

I've been doing registration for the Horse Farm Hundred / Gainesville Cycling Festival now for 25 years, and hope to be able to continue doing that for another 25!

A number of years ago, it became apparent that we didn't have anyone in charge of the Festival, and I stepped up and took on that job. 2015 will mark the 11th year I've had the title of Director of the Gainesville Cycling Festival. I intend for this to be the last year that I will do this. In order for there to be an event next year, we'll need one of you to step up and take on this task. You'll have it easier than I have since you won't also be doing registration! It would be a good idea for you to get on board now so you can become familiar with the Festival operations as they happen this year.

Call me at 378-7063 if you are interested.
