Chilly Chili Picnic

Saturday, January 17
O'Leno State Park

A long-standing GCC tradition! Bike rides start at 9 am or 1 pm, food starts about noon. The long-range forecast is for appropriately chilly temperatures in the morning, followed by rapid warming for a comfortable eating experience.

The picnic features a Chili Cookoff, and everyone is invited to bring their best chili. All chilis are welcome, including vegetarian recipes, hot or mild chilis and other variations. Praise will be awarded to the best chilis. The Club will provide soft drinks and a big pot of rice to accompany the chili. All picnic participants are asked to bring either a chili or a side dish, such as a salad or dessert.

O'Leno is 35 miles north of Gainesville on US 441. Take US 441 north through Alachua and High springs. O'Leno is eight miles north of High springs on US 441.

Brevet Registration Open

The Gainesville Brevet Series will offer the full slate of qualifying brevets for 2015's Paris-Brest-Paris. The 200k is Jan 31, the 300k is Feb 28, the 400k is Mar 28, and the 600k is Apr 16. See much more information on the Brevet web page.


4th Annual Heartbreaker Cycling Invitational Charity Ride

First Magnitude Brewery, 1220 Southeast Veitch Street, Gainesville

The Heartbreaker is an event that traverses some of Gainesville’s most beautiful roads. Featuring Live Oak canopies adorned with Spanish moss, dirt, limerock and paved roads, this ride has it all. We invite RIDERS OF ALL ABILITIES for this fun day of cycling, off the beaten track. This year’s event is held in conjunction with:

Proceeds from this event will benefit the Retirement Home for Horses at Mill Creek Farm. Located at 20307 NW C.R. 235A, Alachua, Florida – a local Alachua County charity.

Cyclocross or Mountain bikes are recommended for both rides. The road surfaces are NOT road bike friendly, please leave them at home.

GCC member Alessandro Muknicka will be the first American to participate in the Unogwaja Challenge. This is a fund raising campaign for non-profit organizations in South Africa. Participants do an epic odyssey which becomes the epitome of 11 days cycling more than 1000 miles across the entire African country and then running 55 miles in the Comrades Marathon which is the oldest and most famous ultra marathon in the world.
