Holiday Party

Friday, December 12
Holy Faith Church, 747 NW 43rd St

WHEN
Set Up at 5 pm
Social Hour at 6 pm
Dinner at 7 pm

EATING
The club will provide turkeys, soda pop, beer, and wine. Daryl Lachnicht will be doing a vegetarian main course for those signed up as vegetarians. Bring appetizers, side dishes, and desserts to complement the birds.

ACTIVITY
Secret Santa Gift Exchange at 8 pm.

If you would like to participate, bring a wrapped gift. The value of the gift should be around $20; it should be something that you would like to get; this is NOT a white elephant exchange. The gift should not be gender specific, as it may be assigned to any other participant.

Only those bringing a gift will participate. Bring only one gift per member (don't bring extras). We'll number the gifts, and participants will draw a number from a box to determine which gift they receive. There is no stealing, but you are free to barter exchanges with others if you choose.

RSVP!
You must RSVP (in the Members Area) to attend as there is a limit on the number of persons in the room. First come, first served.

Needed: A few good ovens

With the GCC Holiday Party on Friday, December 12, we're looking for a few members who can each roast a turkey, carve it up, and bring it to the Holy Faith Church before 7 pm (you get to keep the carcass for soup or general picking!). If you work on Fridays you obviously are not a candidate (unless you need an excuse to take a vacation day). The Club will buy the turkeys and provide an aluminum roasting pan.

The number of birds we'll need will depend on the number who sign up for the event, but I'm thinking four should do it, so we need at least four ovens. We'll put any additional volunteers on hot standby in case we get a higher sign up than expected.

Reply by email if you have an available oven!

Do you know someone who lacks confidence when faced with riding in traffic? Who hugs the white line next to the curb, afraid of angering motorists because he thinks he doesn't belong in the street, riding his bike, where there are cars? That the only thing worse than riding in a bike lane is riding on a street with NO bike lane? Does your friend the sidewalk cyclist dream of leaving the bike path and green paint behind, and actually riding her bike, well...ANYWHERE she wants? Cycling Savvy is coming to Gainesville.

The tentative date for the all-day course is Saturday, January 17th. Cost is $75. Tell your friend to contact me (Ally Gill) for more information.

Board Elections Coming Soon

We elect our GCC Board of Directors each year, with the election starting in January, and voting closing early in February. Uncontested seats are elected by acclimation. There are currently three GCC Board of Director positions that will need to be filled, and of course, all eleven positions are open to qualified candidates (must be a Club member for at least a year). Contact any Board member if you are interested in running.

Every year we elect a new Member At Large. This person sits on the Board, preparing to move into another position, and performs other duties as assigned.

The Board has not yet determined the duties of the remaining two openings; we'll keep you posted.
