Labor Day Picnic

Monday, September 1
Boulware Springs City Park

Our last picnic of the summer! Chandler will bring burgers, dogs, brats, and veggie burgers to grill. * BRING * side dishes to complement the main courses and for dessert.

We will provide enough main course for those who RSVP (link in the Members Area)!   Please RSVP if you will be eating the main course.  We'll provide veggie burgers for those whose profile in the Members Area indicates they are vegetarians.

Rides should be planned to meet at the park at 9 am; grilling will commence by noon.

Boulware Springs is located on SE 15th St. See https://gccfla.org/starts/ridelocboulware.html for more detailed directions. We meet on top of the hill behind the pump house.

GCAT Candidate Endorsements

The Gainesville Citizens for Active Transportation (GCAT) has endorsed Ken Cornell and Harvey Ward for County Commission in the Democratic primary now underway, concluding on August 26. This endorsement was made after conducting a public forum, and followup questioning of the candidates in the race.

James Thompson, a GCAT member and Advocacy Director of the GCC, has an article posted in the Members Area with much more detail on this endorsement.

Festival Volunteering

This year's Gainesville Cycling Festival, incorporating the Santa Fe Century, Horse Farm Hundred, and the Share The Road Celebration of Cycling, is scheduled for October 25 and 26, 2014.

We're now signing up volunteers to make the Festival happen. You can see the available slots here. There are instructions on that page for signing up. The prime slots fill quickly, so don't delay (Worthington Springs rest stop is already full!).

All volunteers get a complimentary event t-shirt of your choice (there are 16 different versions available!), and most get a free ride in one of the events. You can sign up for more slots to get an additional shirt and ride (details on the page). Do not register for the Festival until your volunteer positions are listed on your Members Area News page.

Registration is now open!

GCC riding groups may wish to form teams to ride this event. Team members receive a discount when signing up. Click the banner for full information.

Raise funds for breast cancer research and you may qualify for a free Pink Pumpkin Pedal-Off kit (jersey and shorts). Details on the event page.

Join Our Challenge Team!

The League of American Bicyclists National Bike Challenge continues through September. The Gainesville Cycling Club Team still needs YOU to sign up to defend our national #1 title from last year. The Omaha team is close to matching us in members signed up. We need YOU to sign up and log your miles so that we can maintain our lead.

T-shirt Design Contest

Design a T-Shirt for the Santa Fe Century and win two of the shirts and free entry to the Festival.

Designs must fit within an 11-inch square box, and must be original work. The design should be submitted in a vector format file (ai or cdr), but we can work with other formats if necessary.  All submissions become the property of the Gainesville Cycling Club.

The design must identify the event, The Orthopaedic Institute Santa Fe Century, and the year (2014). Other words that can be used are "Millhopper Ramble" and "Ride for Kids" (which uses the quotes). You may incorporate the Santa Fe Rider, but since he will be on the back, he is not mandatory. You can download a copy of the rider graphic at:   https://gccfla.org/gcf/gcfgif/sferider.gif

Call Roger Pierce at 378-7063 for more information, and for instructions on how to submit your design.
