Summer Picnic

Saturday, July 26
San Felasco City Park

San Felasco City Park is located at the end of NW 43rd Way, just north of the TV 20 studios.  From NW 43rd St going north from 53rd Ave, turn left onto NW 43rd Way as 43rd St veers to the right.

This will be Grandy's going a way party, as they close in August.  There'll be plenty of chicken and lasagna. * BRING * side dishes to complement the main courses and for dessert.

We will provide enough main course for those who RSVP!   Please RSVP if you will be eating the main course.  We order lasagna for those whose profile in the Members Area indicates they are vegetarians.

Rides should be planned to meet at the park or at the Chevron at 8 am; lunch will be served by 11:30.

Parking is limited in the picnic area of the park.  Please park on the westbound entrance road if you are able to walk a few yards to get to the picnic area.

Festival Planning Meeting

This year's Gainesville Cycling Festival, incorporating the Santa Fe Century and Horse Farm Hundred, is scheduled for October 25 and 26, 2014.

We have a good core of returning volunteers who will do the front end work, but can always use more to provide backup and spread out the load.  As the event grows closer, we'll be looking for volunteers to do things during the event; there'll be plenty of opportunities to get in on the fun!

The kick off meeting for those who will do the up front work will be on Tuesday, July 15, at 7:30 pm.  If you can help with the planning, please come to see if we can find a place for you to assist.  We'll have ice cream and cookies!

Please RSVP if you can make it.

Join Our Challenge Team!

The League of American Bicyclists National Bike Challenge continues through September. The Gainesville Cycling Club Team still needs YOU to sign up to defend our national #1 title from last year. The Omaha team is continuing to match us in new members signed up, and for a time this month had the lead for July, so we can't let up! We need YOU to sign up and log your miles.

The way the competition works is that you earn 20 points for each day that you ride, plus a point for each mile. Someone who rides a mile a day around their neighborhood earns 147 points a week; a weekend warrior doing 50 mile rides on Saturday and Sunday will earn 140 points. As you can see, everyone can significantly contribute to our team by riding just a few minutes, but by doing it most every day.

Miles for each month MUST be entered in the month ridden. On Saturday, May 31, make sure you get your May miles into the system; on Sunday (June 1) it will be too late. You'll still be able to join our team, but it will be too late to add your May miles.

There are several ways on the web site to join a team. The easiest is to click on Leaderboards (below the blueish bar), then click on Teams; scroll down to find the listing of teams, point to Gainesville Cycling Club -- a Join button will appear for you to click.

Logging your miles manually on the web site is quick, and once you've done it a few times, easy. You can also hook up a Garmin type device to log your miles using several different web site options -- this is not required.

Join our team today!

T-shirt Design Contest

Design a T-Shirt for the Santa Fe Century and win two of the shirts and free entry to the Festival.

Designs must fit within an 11-inch square box, and must be original work. The design should be submitted in a vector format file (ai or cdr), but we can work with other formats if necessary.  All submissions become the property of the Gainesville Cycling Club.

The design must identify the event, The Orthopaedic Institute Santa Fe Century, and the year (2014). Other words that can be used are "Millhopper Ramble" and "Ride for Kids" (which uses the quotes). You may incorporate the Santa Fe Rider, but since he will be on the back, he is not mandatory. You can download a copy of the rider graphic at:   https://gccfla.org/gcf/gcfgif/sferider.gif

Call Roger Pierce at 378-7063 for more information, and for instructions on how to submit your design.
